V1.0 - Release
I just released my point and click detective game for Brackeys Jam 2020.2!
The game:
In Detective: Again! you play as a detective who is tasked with finding a missing scientist. It quickly becomes evident, that this task might have more importance than expected. Before he went missing, he was working on a time machine, that now is rewinding time every day and you are the only person keeping your memory.
That means it's on you to use your deductive skills to find and deactivate the time machine to save the universe.
Postmortem
This was the 9th Game jam I submitted a game for and I must say it went surprisingly well. I'm sure we all know the jams where we overshoot, waste time on unneeded features, and then are stressed out for the last two days before the deadline.
I for sure had this problem previously, but except for the fact that I did not add two or so extra cases to solve I had planned, everything was pretty much done by Friday evening. I spend the following night polishing, creating marketing material like the trailer and building for web and windows.
One thing I am really happy about in retrospect is that I already build my game on the second day of the jam. Back then I found a bug where unity does not build WebGL correctly if compression is enabled. It was a quick fix, but I don't know if I had had the energy to fix it in the night before submission.
Overall I had a lot of fun participating and feel like I learned a lot by creating a game in a genre that I had never touched before.
